UPDATE:

ASTwitterLibrary has been released as OPEN SOURCE! GET IT HERE

After a few email requests for information on integrating the Twitter API into AppleScript I thought I would share my opinion on the matter. I have not undertaken any projects to write an AppleScript library for the Twitter API although such a task is not beyond the realm of possibility. In the meantime, I have found that the script, ASTwitterLibrary makes an excellent addition to any XCode application or simple AppleScript. The beautiful thing about this library is that it is written exactly like my AppleScript library, ASObject, so if you are already using that library you can begin using ASTwitterLibrary right now!

Hi there I am the developer of ASTwitterLibrary. You will be happy to know that
I will be releasing the source code for people to add/ modify more Twitter
actions in to it. As I cannot actively work on it myself at the moment I would
like to give people the opportunity to assist me in building the most complete
library of Twitter actions for AppleScript. Make sure to follow me on Twitter
(hendo13) as that will be the first place i will release it. Cheers!

I have released the newest version of ASTL with a new method to get an
authenticated user's timeline. And it is now also released open
source.

I'm sure you noticed but ASTL has been updated to 1.2 This includes methods for
sending/reading DM's and obtaining favourites and mentions.
